EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Evansville scored nine runs in the fifth inning en route to a 16-6 win over the Bellarmine University baseball team Tuesday at Charles H. Braun Stadium.
Bellarmine (1-3) and Evansville (3-1) were tied at 4 until the Purple Aces' big inning. UE finished with 16 hits and held the Knights to six.
Junior second baseman
Andres Castro had a two-run single in the first inning for Bellarmine. Sophomore shortstop
Luke Scales had a sacrifice fly in the second, as did senior first baseman
Davis Crane in the fourth. Senior designated hitter
Reed Blaszczyk and junior catcher
Matt Flaherty added RBI singles in the seventh.
Junior outfielder
Jake Agarwal collected two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs. Junior right-hander
Hudson Cornett, junior right-hander
Arren Hash and senior right-hander
Ryan Johnson all had scoreless relief outings. Freshman left-hander
Carson Brower was also solid in his collegiate debut, allowing one run in 2.0 innings.
Bellarmine will play a three-game series Friday-Sunday at UNC Asheville, with first pitches at 3 p.m. (ET), 1 p.m. and noon.
