MUNCIE, Ind. — In the midst of a potential rally by the Bellarmine University baseball team, weather shortened the Knights' Tuesday contest at Ball State, with the Cardinals capturing a 7-2 victory in a little over five innings at Ball Diamond at First Merchants Ballpark Complex.
Bellarmine (4-24) had runners on second and third with no outs in the top of the sixth inning when play was halted — and ultimately never resumed — due to storms. The teams needed to complete 5.0 full innings for it to be a countable game.
Ball State (18-12) plated two runs in the second, three in the third and two more in the fourth in building a 7-1 lead.
Bellarmine was in business in the sixth after junior second baseman
Andres Castro, junior right fielder
Jake Agarwal and junior catcher
Matt Flaherty began the inning with consecutive singles, the latter plating Castro. But then the action was stopped due to lightning and never picked back up.
Bellarmine collected seven hits, with Castro going 2-for-2.
Bellarmine will play an ASUN series Friday-Sunday at Austin Peay. First pitch Friday is set for 7 p.m. (ET).
