CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas completed an Atlantic Sun Conference sweep of the Bellarmine University baseball team with a 6-3 win Sunday at Bear Stadium.
Bellarmine (6-33, 5-13 ASUN) never got untracked offensively against Central Arkansas (16-22, 7-11) in the series. Sunday's ninth inning was a microcosm, as the Knights had the tying run at the plate with no outs but saw their rally attempt fizzle with no runs scored in the frame.
Senior designated hitter
Reed Blaszczyk was responsible for most of Bellarmine's run production, swatting an RBI single in the first and a solo homer in the sixth. Sophomore third baseman
Brady Morse added an RBI ground out in the first, as the Knights took a 2-0 lead but scored just once more on Blaszczyk's sixth round-tripper of the season.
The sweep was especially disappointing because Bellarmine's pitching was collectively solid in the series. Senior right-hander
Nolan Pender struck out four in 4.0 innings and arguably should have departed with a 2-0 lead — the Knights allowed one unearned run and saw a catchable pop-up drop that led to another run in his stint.
Junior right-hander
Arren Hash notched a scoreless inning of relief against UCA, which broke up a 3-3 tie with a two-run sixth and added another run in the seventh.
Bellarmine will play at 6 p.m. (ET) Tuesday at Murray State.
