Big first inning guides Owls to win over baseball

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kennesaw State homered on the first pitch of Saturday's Atlantic Sun Conference contest with the Bellarmine University baseball team, and that was a sign of things to come as the visiting Owls defeated the Knights 21-1.

Kennesaw State (24-17, 14-6 ASUN) poured in 10 runs on nine hits in the first inning alone while clinching the series against Bellarmine (6-36, 5-15). The Owls amassed 20 hits, including two homers, two triples and four doubles, while plating six runs in the fourth and four in the sixth in addition to the first-inning outburst.

Bellarmine broke up the shutout bid in the seventh on junior first baseman Casey Sorg's RBI double. Senior center fielder Will Aubel collected two hits. Sophomore right-hander Holden Groher tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.

The series finale is 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
