LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Morehead State leaned on a five-run second inning in defeating the Bellarmine University baseball team 9-5 on Tuesday at Knights Field.
Most of the scoring between Morehead State (26-19) and Bellarmine (7-37) occurred in the early portion of the contest, as the teams combined for just three of the runs after the fourth inning.
Most of Bellarmine's run production came off home runs. Junior first baseman
Casey Sorg hammered a solo shot in the third inning for his team-high 11th long ball of the season. Junior second baseman
Andres Castro then belted a three-run shot in the fourth.
Sorg's round-tripper got Bellarmine on the board, and Castro's drive cut the deficit to 7-4. However, after Castro's second homer of the year, the Knights posted only one more run on an RBI ground out by Castro in the ninth.
Junior right fielder
Jake Agarwal ended the top of the eighth inning by robbing an Eagle of a home run. Castro sprawled out to make a diving stop at second as the Knights played notable defense in the contest.
Junior right-hander
Arren Hash pitched a season-high 4.0 innings, the first 2.0 of which were scoreless. Freshman right-hander
Chase Carver fired a scoreless ninth.
Castro registered four RBI. Sophomore catcher
Charlie Rife collected a pair of hits.
Bellarmine will play an ASUN series Friday-Sunday at Eastern Kentucky, with a 6 p.m. (ET) first pitch in the opener.
