Austin Peay takes rubber game from baseball

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Behind a seven-run third inning, Austin Peay defeated the Bellarmine University baseball team 14-4 Sunday to secure an Atlantic Sun Conference series at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Bellarmine (5-26, 4-8 ASUN) captured the opening game of the series, but Austin Peay (18-13, 7-5) won the last two. On Sunday, the Governors' offense was powered by five home runs.

All five of those long balls were launched in the first four innings. The result was an 11-1 lead for the Governors. Starter Lyle Miller-Green struck out seven while allowing only one run in 5.0 innings while improving to 4-1.

Senior center fielder Will Aubel, junior first baseman Casey Sorg and sophomore shortstop Luke Scales collected two hits apiece for Bellarmine. Aubel doubled leading off the game and scored on a ground out by senior third baseman Reed Blaszczyk.

Bellarmine didn't score again until the seventh, when the Knights plated three runs. Junior left fielder Jackson Case roped a double while Aubel and Sorg both drove in a run, the latter on an RBI single. BU added a third run in the frame on a throwing error.

Bellarmine will host Western Kentucky at 3 p.m. (ET) Wednesday.
