CARBONDALE, Ill. — In its final midweek game of the season, the Bellarmine University baseball team was defeated 14-8 by Southern Illinois on Tuesday night at Itchy Jones Stadium.
Sophomore third baseman
Brady Morse and junior catcher
Matt Flaherty homered for Bellarmine (8-44). Southern Illinois (30-23) went deep three times among its 12 hits.
Morse and Flaherty both launched two-run homers, the former in the sixth and the latter in the ninth. It was the second long ball of the season for Morse and the fifth for Flaherty.
Sophomore left fielder
Joey Milto, sophomore shortstop
Luke Scales and junior right fielder
Jake Agarwal each had an RBI single for Bellarmine. Agarwal collected two hits and Scales notched two RBI.
Junior first baseman
Casey Sorg reached base in four of his five plate appearances while scoring three runs. Junior right-hander
Arren Hash pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
Southern Illinois scored a combined nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Bellarmine will host Queens on Thursday-Saturday in its final ASUN series. The opener is set for 3 p.m. (ET) at Knights Field.
