LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team, which last season was an Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament finalist for the first time in program history, has unveiled its 2024 schedule.
Bellarmine is set for a 16-game slate that's weighted toward home matches, with nine contests at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium compared to seven road outings. Under head coach
Tim Chastonay, the Knights will have seven league contests coming off a campaign in which they went 6-5-6 overall and 3-2-2 in ASUN play while earning the two-seed in the conference tournament.
All three of Bellarmine's exhibitions will unfold at Frazier Stadium. The Knights will host NAIA programs Oakland City (9-10-1 last season) on Aug. 10 and Georgetown College (6-11) on Aug. 13 before capping the preseason Aug. 17 by welcoming NCAA Tournament participant Xavier (9-4-6), which is the reigning Big East Tournament champion.
Appearing in at least the ASUN Tournament semifinals in each of its first four seasons in Division I, Bellarmine will open the season Aug. 22 with a home match against Evansville (4-8-4) and follow with road contests against a pair of in-state foes in Northern Kentucky (4-10-3) on Aug. 25 and Louisville (12-6-3) on Sept. 2. The Cardinals advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
Louisville is the first of three straight opponents who posted winning records in 2023. On Sept. 7, Bellarmine will host UNC Asheville (10-5-3), which was the Big South Tournament runner-up, before welcoming Belmont (8-7-3) on Sept. 10. The Knights will then travel to Southern Indiana (2-12-3) for a Sept. 14 contest.
Bellarmine kicks off ASUN play with a Sept. 21 home matchup against Central Arkansas (4-9-4, 2-2-3) before a rematch of the 2023 ASUN Tournament championship game with defending champion Lipscomb (10-4-4, 6-1) on Sept. 28 in Nashville. The Bisons were also the 2023 regular-season champion.
Bellarmine follows with four consecutive home games. The Knights will bookend the lengthy stretch on their own turf with nonconference outings against Purdue Fort Wayne (7-6-4) on Oct. 1 and IU Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI, 7-7-5) on Oct. 15, with both teams advancing to the Horizon League Tournament semifinals last season. In between, Bellarmine will meet ASUN counterparts Queens (5-10-2, 3-4) on Oct. 5 and FGCU (3-7-5, 2-2-3) on Oct. 12.
Bellarmine returns to road action Oct. 19 with an ASUN matchup at North Florida (3-8-4, 0-6-1) and an Oct. 22 nonconference contest at Wright State (4-9-5). The Knights will conclude the regular season with a pair of ASUN outings, the first hosting Jacksonville (5-9-3, 2-2-3) on Oct. 26 and the finale Nov. 2 at Stetson (7-7-4, 3-2-2).
