LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University senior midfielder Brendan Schoemehl and senior defender Austin Yowell were both recognized on the 11-member Preseason All-ASUN Team, the league announced Wednesday.

In addition, Bellarmine was picked second in the ASUN preseason coaches' poll.

Last season, Schoemehl was a first-team All-ASUN recipient and United Soccer Coaches third-team All-Atlantic Region selection after leading Bellarmine in points (13), goals (six), shots (26) and shots on goal (14). The native of St. Louis was acknowledged on the ASUN All-Tournament Team behind a two-goal performance against Stetson in a semifinals victory, and he also earned an ASUN Defensive Player of the Week accolade during the season.

In 2023, Yowell was a high-impact transfer from Belmont, garnering second-team All-ASUN plaudits while distributing three assists and logging a team-high 1,520 minutes. The native of Phoenix barely left the field, playing the entire match in 14 games while never amassing less than 79 minutes of action.

Bellarmine boosted its total of Preseason All-ASUN Team recipients to six since spring 2021.

With 45 points, Bellarmine was selected behind preseason favorite and reigning ASUN regular season and tournament champion Lipscomb (63 points, seven first-place votes) in the coaches' poll. The Knights earned the two-seed and were the runner-up in the 2023 ASUN Tournament. Stetson was close behind Bellarmine in the poll with 44 points.

Lipscomb swept the preseason superlative awards, with Javanne Smith tabbed the favorite for Player of the Year, George Macready for Defensive Player of the Year and Juan Carlos Rodriguez for Goalkeeper of the Year.
