EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Bellarmine University women's soccer team wrapped up nonconference play with a 2-1 loss to Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field.
Senior forward
Emma Nicholson produced her team-high fifth goal of the season for Bellarmine (1-5-1). Her goal against USI (1-6-2) came in the 24th minute, as Nicholson corralled the ball after a Screaming Eagles defender failed to clear freshman forward
McKenzie Carle's cross and ripped in a shot from 8 yards.
Bellarmine took its 1-0 advantage into halftime, but Southern Indiana vaulted into the lead in the second half with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart. Both were supplied by Greta Ohlwein, in the 57th and 59th minutes.
Bellarmine had opportunities to draw even. In the 84th minute, Nicholson had a shot from 8 yards deflect off the right post, and the Knights were a little wide on the rebound attempt.
Bellarmine had edges of 10-9 in total shots and 5-4 on frame.
Bellarmine will open ASUN play by hosting Austin Peay at 7 p.m. (ET) Thursday.
