LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team and UNC Asheville played to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
The contest between Bellarmine (1-2-1) and UNC Asheville (2-1-1) was a clash of two teams who earned runner-up honors in their respective 2023 conference tournaments, with the Knights doing so in the Atlantic Sun Conference and the Bulldogs the Big South Conference.
UNC Asheville edged Bellarmine in total shots at 13-12, but the Knights had a decided advantage on frame at 9-1. The Bulldogs did have one chance scrape the crossbar and another deflect off the post.
Bellarmine had some near-misses as well. Junior defender
Rhys Davies had a rocket toward the upper right corner that UNC's Charlie Farrar was able to knock away. Farrar also stopped a 1v1 late in the match that was for all intents and purposes a game-saver.
Bellarmine's defense recorded its first shutout of the season. It was also the first time the Knights were held without a goal.
Bellarmine will host Belmont at 6:30 p.m. (ET) Tuesday.
