BLOOMINGTON, In. – Bellarmine women's tennis turned an impressive showing at the Hoosier Classic this past weekend as the Knights won two flights and collected 14 total wins across the three days of competition at the IU Tennis Center.
Along with host Indiana, Bellarmine competed against Butler, Chicago State, Louisville, Northern Illinois and Purdue in the event. Over all three days of competition, Bellarmine lost just one match to a non-power conference opponent.
Junior
Nikola Kollaritsch led the Knights as she was the top victor in the Singles Flight Six with a perfect 3-0 record, defeating opponents from Chicago State, Northern Illinois and Butler en route to her 1
st place finish. In doubles, Kollaritsch partnered with Nikita Liyanage from Chicago State to go 2-1 in Doubles Flight Three, falling only to teammates
Marika Caruk and Claudia Fusté Fernández for a second-place finish.
Caruk and Fusté Fernández ran the table in Doubles Flight Three, winning the flight with wins over Chicago State, Butler and the mix pairing of Kollaritsch and Liyanage.
In Doubles Flight 1, senior
Vendula Kryslova and sophomore
Reese Parker turned in a solid 2-1 effort, taking fifth place. After losing their first-round matchup against Louisville, the pair defeated opponents from Butler and IU.
Overall, Kollaritsch turned in the best record of any Knight, going 5-1. Parker was right behind her, going 4-2 on the weekend after a 2-1 record in Singles Flight Four netted her a fifth-place finish. Fusté Fernández also went 4-2 while Kryslova and and Caruk went an even .500 with 3-3 records as no Knights finished with a losing record in the event.
Up next, Bellarmine will compete in the ITA Regionals in Knoxville, TN October 15-19.
