Men's soccer to host Jacksonville in ASUN Championship semifinals

11/9/2025 3:03:00 PM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team will host Jacksonville in the ASUN Championship semifinals at 7 p.m. (ET) Monday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Gold Division champion and top seed Bellarmine (8-3-4) earned a bye into the semifinals while Graphite Division two-seed Jacksonville (6-7-4) defeated Gold Division three-seed Lipscomb 2-0 in the quarterfinals Saturday night in Frazier Stadium.

Since the ASUN instituted intra-divisional-only play in the regular season, Bellarmine and Jacksonville are squaring off for the first time in 2025 — and first time ever in the postseason. The Knights own a 2-1-1 series lead over the Dolphins in the D1 era, with a 2-1 home win in 2024 the outcome in the most recent showdown.

Jacksonville's quarterfinal victory over Lipscomb was thorough. Diego Valles scored exactly 16 minutes into the contest while Juan Pablo Gonzalez netted his fifth goal of the season in the 82nd minute. The Dolphins had a decisive 19-5 advantage in shots, including 7-2 on frame, and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

Jacksonville posted its sixth shutout of the season, and it was the fifth clean sheet for Christian Sekanina. The Dolphins are 4-1-2 over their last seven matches, scoring two goals in each of those wins.

Bellarmine's ASUN Gold Division championship is the first regular-season title in any sport at BU in the Division-I era and has come in the final year of Tim Chastonay, who is retiring from college head coaching at the end of this season, his 28th with the program. The Knights are making their sixth straight appearance in the ASUN Championship, and this marks their fifth appearance in the semifinals. They advanced to the title game in 2023.

Bellarmine is 6-0 at home this season, including 3-0 in ASUN play. The Knights concluded the regular season with a pair of road games, recording 1-1 draws with both Lipscomb and Queens. The latter contest, on Nov. 1, represents BU's most recent match.

Note: Students may use their Knights Nation pass on BUKnightstix.com for free admission. Fans are encouraged to show up early due to expected large crowds.
