DAYTON, Ohio — Despite a ninth-inning outburst, the Bellarmine University baseball team fell 20-10 to Dayton on Wednesday at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium.
Bellarmine (0-7) ended the contest with Dayton (3-6) with a bang, sending 13 batters to the plate in the final inning and scoring eight runs on seven hits. The late explosion enabled the Knights to gather 12 hits for the game, tying a season high.
Senior first baseman
Casey Sorg delivered his second straight 3-for-5 performance. He doubled twice, drove in three runs and scored three runs. Junior left fielder
Eli Watson went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
Dayton didn't score in four of its innings, but the Flyers piled up runs in their other four frames at the plate. They took an 8-0 lead after two innings and added five runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth while amassing 20 hits.
Sorg and Watson had consecutive RBI doubles in the fourth for Bellarmine. Dayton kept the Knights off the board after that until the ninth, when BU plated eight runs.

Bellarmine will play a three-game series Friday-Sunday at Charleston Southern.
