LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Eastern Illinois topped the Bellarmine University baseball team 15-8 on Tuesday at Knights Field.
EIU (5-8) scored all 15 of its runs over the first five innings. The Panthers plated three runs apiece in the first, third and fourth innings while tallying two in the second and four in the fifth.
Bellarmine (2-13) fell behind 8-0, but the Knights did cut the deficit in half with a four-run third. However, EIU scored the next seven runs to create another large buffer.
Junior right fielder
Eli Watson had a two-run single and junior infielder
Luke Scales laced an RBI single in the four-run third. The Knights added a pair of runs in the fifth on a dropped pop up, and freshman third baseman
Grant Borden had an RBI single in a two-run sixth.
Scales and freshman infielder
Landon Akers notched two hits apiece. The Knights collected 10 total.
Junior right-hander
Nathaniel Helton and senior right-hander
Hudson Cornett tossed 2.0 scoreless innings apiece.
Bellarmine will host Southern Indiana at 2 p.m. (ET) Wednesday.
