LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine softball opened the Atlantic Sun Conference portion of its 2025 schedule on Friday, falling 4-0 to Austin Peay at Knights Field.
With the loss, the Knights move to 4-11 overall and begin the ASUN 0-1.
Bellarmine got through the opening frame relatively quickly, allowing just one hit to Austin Peay. In the home half of the inning, the Knights got to work.
Harlie Bickett and
Jacklyn Zuege started the game with back-to-back singles to put two runners on with no outs. The threat would ultimately come to pass after a double-play and quick third out.
After the quiet first inning, the Governors struck in the second, putting two runs on the board thanks to a two-out, two-run home run.
The third went by no further damage before mother nature called and put the game on hold with lightning in the area. The delay last 1:40 minutes total before the game picked back up in the fourth.
Austin Peay loaded the bases in the top of the fourth with just one out, but
Kelsie Houchens was able to work her way out of the jam without giving up a run.
The Governors added two more runs in the seventh, courtesy of a solo homer and RBI ground out to push their lead to 4-0.
Bellarmine got a runner on-base in the home half but was unable to muster a run, falling 4-0.
Up next, the Knights and Governors will play a doubleheader at Knights Field on Friday, March 14 to wrap up the first ASUN series of the season.
