Softball falls to Stonehill 4-2 on Saturday morning

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine softball team continued its home weekend on Saturday, falling 4-2 to Stonehill at Knights Field.

With the loss, the Knights move to 4-9 on the year.

After a quiet first inning, Stonehill jumped in front with two runs in the top of the second.

Bellarmine put an answer on the board one inning later, scoring a run in the bottom of the third. Harlie Bickett led the frame off with a single up the middle before Jacklyn Zuege followed with a single of her own, advancing Bickett all the way to third with Zuege taking second on the throw. After a double play cut Bickett down at the plate, Lydia Stowe stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI single to left field to bring home Zuege and cut the deficit to one, down 2-1.

The Skyhawks added two more runs to their lead in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of a defensive error before knocking back-to-back RBI singles.

In the home half of the sixth, the Knights got back to work, putting another run on the board. Erica Endris kicked the frame off with a single. With Kayla Bauer on to pinch run, Mackayla Denney pulled a single through the left side of the infield to put two runners on. In the next at-bat, Jadyn Thompson got in on the action with a single of her own, bringing home Bauer. Despite two runners on with no outs, Bellarmine was unable to add another run in the inning, still down 4-2.

Bellarmine held the Skyhawks in the seventh, but couldn't muster a final rally, falling 4-2.

Seven of the nine starting Knights tallied a hit in the game.

Up next, Bellarmine will conclude its weekend of play on Sunday, March 9 with a contest against Evansville at Knights Field.
