LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine softball closed its home ASUN series with Central Arkansas this afternoon, falling 7-1 at Knights Field.
After a scoreless first inning, Central Arkansas (20-23, 8-6 ASUN) broke the stalemate with a solo home run in the top of the second, taking a 1-0 lead. The Bears followed with another two runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 3-0.
Bellarmine (6-25, 2-13 ASUN) answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the fifth. With one out in the inning, junior
Jacklyn Zuege got things going with a single up the middle. After the second out was made, senior
Reni Shemwell stepped to the plate and delivered a clutch hit, a double that hit the top of the fence in left center field, bringing home Zuege for the Knights' first run of the game.
In the top of the sixth, Central Arkansas put up a crooked number, scoring four runs to jump ahead 7-1.
The Knights tried but we're unable to get much going in the final two frames, falling 7-1 on the day.
Up next, Bellarmine will stay at home and prepare for its final midweek contest of the season as the Knights welcome Northern Kentucky University to Knights Field on Wednesday, April 16.
