Knights outhit Redhawks but bested in midweek game

OXFORD, Ohio — Despite producing more hits, the Bellarmine University baseball team fell 10-4 to Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday at Hayden Park.

Miami (22-18) created some cushion with a four-run fourth and added a run in the fifth for a 7-2 lead over Bellarmine (10-30). The Knights countered with a pair of runs in the sixth to get within three, but the Redhawks responded with a three-run bottom half for what was ultimately the final margin.

Bellarmine outhit Miami 9-8, with freshman Landon Akers and junior Joey Milto collecting two hits each. The Knights got on the board in the third behind consecutive RBI singles by senior Casey Sorg and junior Eli Watson.

Bellarmine plated its final two runs in the sixth on a pinch-hit, RBI single by sophomore Nick Gnardellis and a sacrifice fly by freshman Mason Acton.

Senior right-hander Arren Hash tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Senior right-hander Blake Donnan, sophomore right-hander Chase Carver and senior right-hander Mike Sokol delivered a scoreless inning apiece.

Bellarmine has two midweek games this week, as the Knights will play at 7 p.m. ET (6 CT) Wednesday at Southern Indiana.
