LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University softball team played its final home game of the season on Sunday afternoon, falling 5-0 to Lipscomb at Knights Field.
Bellarmine and Lipscomb found themselves in a similar situation as game two yesterday afternoon as the series finale proved to be another pitcher's duel.
The Knights were able to limit Lipscomb's chances early while putting themselves in scoring position, but no damage was done.
Lipscomb finally broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs on two hits to jump ahead 3-0.
Senior
Reni Shemwell ripped a double, her second of the game, to lead off the bottom of the sixth but once again, the Bisons shut down the threat with no runs crossing the plate.
In the seventh, Lipscomb tacked on two more insurance runs to take a 5-0 lead.
Bellarmine once again started the frame off with a runner on second thanks to a leadoff double from senior
Kayla Bauer. Fellow senior
Harlie Bickett followed with a single, moving Bauer to third. A ground out in the next at-bat moved Bickett into scoring position with just one out but nothing more would happen in the inning as the Knights fell 5-0.
Shemwell finished with a game-high three hits, two of which were doubles.
In the circle, grad student
Kelsie Houchens pitched 6.0 strong innings, allowing the three runs on six hits and one walk with a season-high tying four strikeouts.
Up next, Bellarmine will travel to Richmond, KY for its final three games of the season, taking on Eastern Kentucky May 2-3.
