LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Although it won the series, the Bellarmine University baseball team fell 5-3 to North Alabama in the Atlantic Sun Conference finale Monday at Trinity Stadium.
Bellarmine (8-23, 4-8 ASUN) swept a Sunday doubleheader to secure the series, but North Alabama (9-20, 6-6) mostly stifled the Knights' offense in the finale. Winning pitcher Brycen Parrish allowed only two runs in 7.0 innings while Luke Davenport claimed a save after tossing the final 2.0 innings, with the pair combining to surrender just six hits.
Bellarmine scored one run each in the first, sixth and ninth innings. Junior
Eli Watson plated the first run with a squeeze bunt, freshman
Landon Akers singled and scored on a wild pitch for the second run and freshman
McKay Whitaker accounted for the last run with a pinch-hit RBI single.
Akers collected two of Bellarmine's six hits. Senior right-hander
Mike Sokol was superb in relief, allowing no hits and yielding only one run in 5.0 innings.
Bellarmine will play at 4 p.m. (ET) Tuesday at Murray State.
