Women's soccer remains unbeaten, deadlocks 1-1 with Norse

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's soccer team and Northern Kentucky exchanged second-half goals before deadlocking 1-1 on Thursday night at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Sophomore midfielder Campbell Tippey netted the goal for the Knights (2-0-1), whose head coach, Steve Bornhoffer, was previously an assistant at Northern Kentucky (2-0-2) for 14 seasons. Senior forward Lucy von Stefenelli registered an assist for Bellarmine, which remained unbeaten through three games.

Although there were close calls on both sides, the teams were scoreless at halftime. That changed in the second half in the 63rd minute, as from the top of the box, Stefenelli crossed to Tippey at the 6, and she drove in a header for a 1-0 lead on her second goal of the season.

Northern Kentucky equalized in the 71st minute when Erykah Cornett converted off a Lilly Yordy corner kick. It was Yordy's sixth assist already this season.

Neither team scored again, but the Norse probably felt particularly snakebitten. NKU had shots carom off the crossbar and post in the match and a rifled shot by Sophia Kapszukiewicz just ahead of the final buzzer was close enough to draw more gasps.

Northern Kentucky finished with a 23-10 advantage in shots, including 10-3 on goal. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Anna Jenkins racked up nine saves for the Knights.

Bellarmine will host Indiana at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
