LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
Anouk Richters scored Bellarmine field hockey's first goal of the season, but the Knights fell to UC Davis 2-1 Sunday morning at Trager Stadium.
Bellarmine dropped to 0-2 while UC Davis improved to 1-1 after suffering a season-opening 4-0 loss at Miami (OH).
Trailing 1-0 in the second quarter, Richters and the Knights converted on a penalty corner with 2:58 left to tie the game.
Brooke Buchanan inserted and
Alicia Hudson served as the stopper for Richters, who found the back of the cage for her second career goal. Buchanan and Hudson were credited with their first assists of the season, and the first of her career for Buchanan.
UC Davis' Ella Franken, however, answered just 57 seconds later on a penalty corner to give the Aggies a 2-1 advantage heading into the break. It was her second score of the game.
Knights keeper
Kailey Workman registered 12 saves, two shy of her career high, and helped hold UCD scoreless in the second half.
The Aggies consistently generated more scoring opportunities than Bellarmine, outshooting the Knights 27-5, 14-3 on goal, and holding a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.
With the loss, the Knights are now 0-3 all-time against UCD.
Bellarmine heads north next weekend to take on Michigan State Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
