LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University sprint football team suffered its second loss of the season to Midway by a score of 81-27 Saturday afternoon at Holy Cross High School.
Bellarmine (0-4, 0-4 MSFL) got on the board with 4:09 remaining in the first quarter as kicker
Ryan Bowen connected on a 49-yard field goal, setting a new program record for the longest field goal.
Trailing 10-3, freshman
Jamie Jones kept the ball on a quarterback keeper and ran it into the end zone for a 31-yard touchdown, but a failed point-after try prevented the Knights from tying the game. Bellarmine later made up for the lost point when
Aiden Bratcher hauled in a 39-yard touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion to knot the game at 17-17.
Midway (4-0, 4-0 MSFL) took command of the game in the second half, outscoring Bellarmine 50-7.
Bellarmine will wrap up its home schedule with a contest against Quincy on Saturday, October 17. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
