LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Junior Salah Farah placed in the top 10 of the men's Gold Race and graduate student Kynzlei Bassett was the runner-up in the women's Silver Race in leading Bellarmine University at Saturday's Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.

In the event's premier race, Farah crossed the finish line in eighth in 24:08.1, which stands as the seventh-best 8k time in program history. He rose a spot from fifth to fourth on the performance list and has recorded two of the top 12 all-time fastest marks this season. Farah clocked the program's third-best time ever in the annual Louisville meet (Chris Striegel, 23:59.04 in 2016; Chase Atkins, 24:03 in 2024).

Sophomore Jared Fairbanks finished 27th and his 24:37.1 matches the 23rd-fastest 8k time in program history. He ascended from 11th to a tie for eighth on the performance list.

Bassett was second only to Alabama A&M's Laura Avila (18:20.2) in the women's Silver Race. She posted an 18:25 for the second straight meet, which is the 48th-fastest 5k time in program history.

Bellarmine was the runner-up as a team as well in the Silver Race, finishing second behind Alabama A&M. The Knights placed three in the top 20, as graduate student Camille Ludwig (14th, 19:43.4), freshman Carmen Guerrero (18th, 19:49.8) and freshman Anniston Sewell (20th, 19:55.5) followed Bassett. Graduate student Evelyn Pazienza (36th, 20:26.7) completed the top five.

Bellarmine's men finished 16th of 24 in the Gold Race. Sophomore Landen Fernandez (134th, 25:53.8), senior Chase Austin (147th, 25:58.5) and junior Ben Hunter (170th, 26:18.5) followed Farah and Fairbanks in rounding out the top five.

Bellarmine's men had a squad compete in the 8k Blue Race as well. Junior Sherjeel Khan (68th, 26:42.5) paced the Knights in that competition.

Bellarmine will compete Oct. 16 in the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State.
