ATLANTA — The Bellarmine University baseball team was defeated 14-1 by Georgia State on Friday in the series opener at the GSU Baseball Complex.
The lone run for Bellarmine (2-3) came on a solo homer from freshman second baseman
Jake Bell, who notched two of the Knights' four hits against the Panthers (4-2). It was the second long ball of the season for Bell.
Senior
AJ Swader added a double for the Knights, and senior
Connor Pawlowski notched a base hit as well. Freshman right-hander
Jaxson Howard tossed an inning of scoreless relief in his collegiate debut, while senior right-hander
Cole McMichael hurled a shutout inning as well.
Georgia State set the tone with a grand slam in the first inning. The Panthers also scored three runs apiece in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
Game 2 is set for 3 p.m. (ET) Saturday.
