LEXINGTON, Ky. – Bellarmine softball turned in a solid all-around performance on Tuesday night but, it wasn't enough to overcome Kentucky as the Knights fell 3-1 at John Cropp Stadium.
Despite the final score leaning in Kentucky's favor, Bellarmine (10-20, 3-3 ASUN) played well in its fourth meeting with the Wildcats.
Sophomore
Makenzie Cowburn turned in another impressive outing in the circle, tossing a 6.0 inning complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on just four hits with five strikeouts to five walks.
Kentucky (21-12, 1-8 SEC) got all of its offense on one swing, scoring three runs in the second inning thanks to a home run off the bat of Reaghan Oney.
The Knights finally answered in the fifth inning. With one out and a runner on first, senior
Jacklyn Zuege stepped to the plate and ripped the second pitch she saw to the wall in center field for an RBI double. Bellarmine continued to load the bases after the clutch hit but was unable to do any more damage.
Neither team was able to get any more offense going in the final few innings as Kentucky closed out the 3-1 win.
Up next, Bellarmine returns to Atlantic Sun Conference play, hosting North Alabama at Knights
Field for a three-game series March 28-29.
