Baseball Storms Back from Eight-Run Deficit to Clinch First ASUN Series Win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine baseball delivered one of its most electric wins of the season Sunday, storming back from an eight-run deficit to defeat North Alabama 12-9 and secure its first ASUN series win of the year.

Trailing 9-1 in the sixth inning, the Knights flipped the game completely, scoring 11 unanswered runs to complete the comeback.

Bellarmine finished with 15 hits and 10 RBIs, with production coming from nearly every spot in the order. Leading the charge was Jake Bell, who turned in a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs, and a walk. Luke Scales added two hits and an RBI, while Eli Watson drove in two runs in key moments. Off the bench, Sawyer Pace provided a major spark, reaching base twice, scoring two runs, and driving in another.

After being held in check early, the Knights broke through in the sixth inning and never slowed down. Bellarmine scored three in the sixth, four in the seventh, and four more in the eighth, turning a blowout deficit into a commanding lead entering the ninth.

The eighth inning proved to be the knockout punch. With the game tied, AJ Swader doubled to even the score before Pace followed with an RBI single to give Bellarmine the lead. Bell delivered again with an RBI double, and Mason Acton capped the inning with an RBI single to push the Knights ahead 12-9.

Both starting pitchers kept the game tightly contested early, as Deaton Oak and North Alabama's Reese Young traded zeros through the first five innings with the score even at 1-1 entering the sixth. Oak was efficient and in control, allowing just three runs through 5.1 innings, while Young matched him by limiting the Knights through the early frames. The pitchers' duel set the tone before the game flipped dramatically in the sixth inning.

Bellarmine weathered the Lions' big sixth inning before locking things down late. Cade Rusch earned the win, tossing two shutout innings out of the bullpen to close the game and secure the series-clinching victory.

The win marks Bellarmine's first ASUN series victory of the season and stands as one of the team's most complete and resilient performances of the year.

The Knights return to action Tuesday on the road against Northern Kentucky before continuing ASUN play next weekend at home against Lipscomb.
