LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine baseball dropped Game two of its final regular season series Friday afternoon, falling 11-3 to Eastern Kentucky at Knights Field. The Knights move to 19-33 overall and 11-18 in ASUN Conference play.
Eastern Kentucky jumped out early with five runs in the opening inning and added three more in the second to take an 8-0 advantage early.
Bellarmine got on the board in the fourth inning when AJ Swader launched his 11th home run of the season, a solo shot to center field that cut the deficit to 8-1.
The Knights threatened at times throughout the afternoon, collecting seven hits as Eli Watson led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBI. Luke Scales, Luca Hoerger and Landon Akers each added hits for Bellarmine.
After EKU extended its lead to 11-1 in the eighth inning on a two-run homer, Bellarmine answered in the bottom half. Landon Akers and Charlie Rife worked walks before Watson lined a two-run single into center field to score both runners and make it 11-3.
Nikau Heeney provided solid relief work for the Knights, tossing 4.1 innings while Raygan New closed the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run and striking out three.
Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky conclude the series Sunday at 3 p.m. ET at Knights Field on Senior Day after Saturday's originally scheduled finale was moved due to forecasted weather.
