LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 stalemate with Hanover on Tuesday night at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Bellarmine (5-0-2) extended its home unbeaten streak to 15 with the draw. The Knights fell behind almost immediately on an own goal inside the first minute but tied it at 1 later in the half on a successful penalty kick by junior forward
Teddy Franke, who collected his third goal of the season.
One of the most telling aspects of the performance of Division III Hanover (1-2-2) was that the Panthers forced Bellarmine sophomore goalkeeper
Benny Howard to be a standout in the second half in order for the Knights to remain even with them. All three of Howard's saves required exceptional playmaking.
Howard transferred to Bellarmine from Hanover and kept the Panthers out of the net in the second half. Hanover, in turn, did not allow a goal after halftime either.
Bellarmine had a 17-9 advantage in shots largely due to a 10-3 count in the first half. Both teams finished with four shots on goal.
Bellarmine will host Central Arkansas in an ASUN match at 7 p.m. (ET) Saturday.
