Candy Herald began as an assistant coach for the Bellarmine University softball program in the 2016 season.
In 2017, Herald helped Bellarmine rally into the GLVC Tournament after a 3-11 start to conference play. The Knights followed by going 11-3 against league opponents in the regular season and then won a pair of games in the GLVC Tournament, including a 4-0 blanking of No. 6 Southern Indiana. In 2016, Bellarmine captured the second-most wins in program history at 33.
Born and raised in Arizona, Herald played softball for Central Arizona College for two years. In 1998, she helped lead the team to a fourth-place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series and was selected on the All-Tournament team. Herald transferred to the University of Louisville in 1999, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
Herald has a wide variety of coaching experience. She has been an assistant coach at Ballard High School and Male High School. She was also the co-head coach with her husband, Travis, for Christian Academy of Louisville. The two paired up again to coach the Blaze 18-and-under travel team located in Louisville for one season.
Before joining the Knights, Herald was a volunteer assistant at the University of Louisville.
Herald and her husband have three children: Truman, Eva and Gabriella.
