Brandon Sellers joined the first Bellarmine University wrestling coaching staff as an assistant leading into the Knights’ first-ever season in 2016-17. In addition, he assists in Bellarmine’s Sports Performance department.
In 2017-18, Sellers helped guide Bellarmine to its first-ever GLVC duals victories when the Knights swept Truman State and Drury in Knights Hall by finals of 33-15 and 28-14. Andrew Sams became the program's first All-GLVC performer, and Sams also was the first to be named GLVC Wrestler of the Week, doing so on two occasions.
Including Bellarmine, Sellers has coached alongside Knights Head Coach Spencer Adams at three different stops. In 2014, Sellers helped Adams and fellow assistant Gary Canter start the wrestling program at St. Catharine (Ky.) College.
Over two seasons, he helped lead the Patriots to finishes of 39th (2015) and 31st (2016) in the NAIA National Championship. The squad also was honored with the NAIA’s prestigious “Champions of Character” team award in 2015-16. The award is presented at the end of the season for each of the NAIA’s 23 championship sports to recognize teams that demonstrate in every-day decisions integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
Prior to his stint at St. Catharine, Sellers was an assistant under Adams for two seasons with the newly founded program at Taylor County (Ky.) High School. Despite being an infant program, the team produced two state qualifiers. Also in 2013, Sellers started up Taylor County’s youth wrestling program, which produced three state champions and four other state qualifiers.
From 2006-08, Sellers coached the junior varsity team at his high school alma mater, Chantilly in Virginia. The team won back-to-back district titles in his time there.
Sellers wrestled collegiately at Campbellsville (Ky.) University for three years while earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration. In 2016, he earned a master’s degree in health promotion and leadership from St. Catharine.
While competing in high school at Chantilly, Sellers was a team captain. He placed third in 2005 at the Virginia Greco-Roman State Tournament to earn a spot on Team Virginia. Sellers wrestled in Puerto Rico’s Copa Sparta Invitational on multiple occasions, placing fourth once and fifth twice.
