Brendan Murphy was brought on prior to the 2021-22 season and assists with all facets of the program as the primary assistant coach.
Murphy will enter his second season at Bellarmine in 2022-23.
The 2021-22 season featured a pair of thrilling one-point victories, including a season-opening win against SIUE at Knights Hall. The Knights also produced a tournament-best 46 wins at the NUWAY College Combat Open in Louisville. With Murphy on the bench, senior Eric Beck broke the program record for career wins (92), while five different Knights recorded 10+ individual victories. Overall, 17 wrestlers earned their way into the win column.
Murphy was previously the Assistant Wrestling Coach at McKendree University in the Great Lakes Valley Conference from 2016 through the spring of 2021.
Before his stint with the Bearcats, Murphy earned his master’s in business administration while performing graduate assistant duties at McKendree. The Bearcats won a pair of division II team regional championships while producing three individual national champions with Murphy on staff. Murphy helped recruit and guide 29 Division II All-Americans over the course of five seasons, while the team placed in the top-seven in the NCAA Championsips all five of those years.
Murphy received his bachelor’s degree in business from Southern Illinois Edwardsville in 2012 while wrestling for the Cougars. With SIUE, Murphy was a two-time NCWA national champion. Most recently, Murphy received his PhD in business from Trident University.
