Laura Campbell, joined the Bellarmine field hockey team as a volunteer coach in 2019, with a focus on goalkeeper training.
In 2024, Campbell guided a pair of Bellarmine goalkeepers in junior Kailey Workman and freshman Megan Clauser. Workman, who started all 17 games and spent 1,015 minutes in goal, amassed a career high with 120 saves, the sixth-most in program history, and a .719 save percentage. Workman was third in the MAC averaging 7.06 saves per game and fourth with her .719 save percentage. Workman reached double-digit saves in six games and tallied a career-high 14 saves against Appalachian State. Clauser, in her debut season, recorded a pair of saves and allowed just one goal in 42 minutes in the cage.
Workman, the only goalie on the 2023 team, contributed significantly for the Knights during a standout sophomore season under Campbell’s tutelage. As a sophomore, Workman averaged 5.35 saves per game, good for fourth in the MAC, and amassed 91 saves while posting .674 save percentage and 2.49 goals against average. Workman tallied a then career-high 12 saves against VCU and also reached double-digit saves against Northeastern. Workman’s performance helped her land a spot on Team Canada’s roster for the Junior Pan American Championship.
The fall 2021 campaign showcased major strides in the program's second season in Division I. Bellarmine totaled four victories, won three of its final four games, and featured a pair of all-conference players. Campbell helped guide senior Breanna McWhorter to another outstanding season, recording a MAC-best 138 saves, good for third in NCAA Division I, and helping her earn Second Team All-MAC notice.
