LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University women's basketball team extended an 8-point halftime lead into a 17-point bulge just two and a half minutes into the second period and went on to record an 80-55 victory over the visiting Central State Marauders tonight in an NCAA Division II non-conference battle in Knights Hall.
Bellarmine blistered the nets for 65.5 percent shooting in the second half as the Knights finished shooting 57.9 percent for the game while holding the Marauders to just 23 of 67 shooting (34.3 percent).
The Knights were paced by freshman
Darion Hutchinson with 15 points and nine rebounds. Junior
Allison Osen also had a solid performance for Bellarmine going a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and hauling in six rebounds.
Central State was led by Shakeira Lang, who came off the bench to score 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.
Bellarmine remains perfect on the young season, extending its record to 3-0, while Central State is 0-2 and still looking for their first victory.
The Knights don't return to action until after Thanksgiving when they face Coker College on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. in the MetroMedical Solutions Thanksgiving Classic in Knights Hall.
