LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Coming off a balanced effort in defeating Oakland City on Sunday, the Bellarmine University women's basketball team looks to take the Big Apple by storm, playing two games in New York City this week to wrap up the nonconference portion of their schedule.
Bellarmine (5-3, 0-2) will play Wednesday night against Concordia College on Long Island, before taking on the New York Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon. In between the two games, the team is scheduled to take in the sights and sounds of New York City.
Having little trouble putting the ball in the basket, Bellarmine leads the GLVC in field goal percentage at 46.6%, a stat that also ranks the Knights ninth in the country. Guard
Kylie Brady continues to lead three players in double figures as she averages 14.5 points a game, while
Allison Matheis and
Darion Hutchinson both chip in a little more than 10 per game. Five other Knights are also contributing at least five points per game to help the cause.
Scoring from all over the court, the Knights have proved to a difficult team to game plan for as they lead in the conference in 3-point percentage (42.1%), but have also shown a great ability to drive to the hoop and get to the foul line. Bellarmine has gotten to the charity strip 179 times, second most in the GLVC, and are converting 75.4% of their chances.
While the Clippers of Concordia College (3-8, 2-3 CACC) struggled out of the gate this season, they have won two of their last three and look to continue their hot streak. The Clippers run most of their offense through junior Krystina Agard. The 5-8 guard has reached the 20 point plateau in her last four games, including 32 points last time out in the victory over Gregorian Court.
The NYIT(4-3, 1-0) team the Knights will see on Saturday is very similar in the fact that the focus will be on 5-8 guard/forward Cierra Baker. The do-everything senior averages 19.6 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. As much as they will have to mark Baker when she is on offense, Bellarmine will have to be aware of her on defense as well where she ranks third in the nation in steals per game at 4.7 per game.
