Box Score 2 LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University baseball team split today's doubleheader with the Rockhurst Hawks at Knights Field to move to 7-9 on the season and 3-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Knights won the opener 8-4, and dropped the nightcap 11-4.
In game one, the Bellarmine got a strong opening as starting pitcher
Jason Sterrett struck out the side in the first, and the Knights plated a run in the home half as
Michael Morrissette led off with a single advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and trotted home on
Austin Crutcher's sac fly.
Bellarmine continued to pour on the offense, scoring in the first five innings of the seven-inning contest. The Knights were paced offensively by Morrissette and freshman
Anthony Baker, who each had two hits on the day.
Joshua Jimenez picked up his first win in relief of Sterrett, and
Ryan Dixon pitched two and two-thirds innings to pick up his first save.
In game two, Bellarmine held a slim 1-0 lead going into the fifth inning, but Hawks erupted for eight runs in the frame to take command of the game.
The Knights responded to the Rockhurst rally with two runs in the home half of the fifth and one in the eighth but never seriously threatened the Hawks' lead.
Rockhurst (9-7, 4-14 GLVC) closed the game with three runs in the top of the ninth to close the book on scoring in the game.
Crutcher had a big game for Bellarmine in game two, going 4-for- with two RBIs.
Benjamin Fuchs had a solid pitching start, but could not get out of the fifth and was saddled with the loss.
The Knights host Oakland City for a Tuesday game, then travel to Kenosha, Wisc., for a 4-game set with the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday and Saturday.
