Box Score The Bellarmine University baseball team ended their Texas spring break trip on a victorious note by besting the Abilene Christian Wildcats 5-4 on Saturday at ACU's Crutcher Scott Field.

The Knights offense finally revved up as Bellarmine jumped out to 5-0 lead then held off the home squad to pick up the win.

Bellarmine broke open a scoreless game in the top of the third when Justin Eberenz led off with a single, stole second and scored on Austin Crutcher's double.  Crutcher would later score on a throwing error by ACU third baseman Tyler Eager's throwing error.

The Knights tacked on two more runs in the fourth as freshman catcherAnthony Baker delivered the first home run of the season for Bellarmine--a two-run shot to left center--that scored Andy Gehr, who had gotten aboard thanks to an ACU error.

Meanwhile, Bellarmine starting pitcher Benjamin Fuchs was keeping the Wildcats' offense at bay, allowing just one it over the first four innings.

The Knights struck again in the fifth as Graham Spencer led off with a double and later scored on Gehr's single up the middle to give Bellarmine a 5-0 cushion.

The Wildcats started making a comeback in the fifth when they finally got to Fuchs with back-to-back hits, a double and a single.  Evan McNair relieved and gave up a sacrifice fly to allow the first ACU run, but got the final two outs of the inning.

The score remained 5-1 until the bottom of the seventh when the first four ACU batters reached base.  Ryan Dixon came on to pitch for the Knights, and got a big strike out.  The next batter grounded out to Spencer at third, but plated a run to trim the Bellarmine lead to 5-3.  After an intentional walk, Dixon recorded another big strike out to end the inning with the bases loaded.

Bellarmine took that 5-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth, and although he gave up one run, Bellarmine reliever Justin Strohmeier recorded his second save of the season for the Knights.

The Knights improve to 4-6 on the season with McNair getting credit for the victory, while Abilene Christian drops to 11-8.

Saturday's game was the third in three days between the schools with ACU winning the first two by the scores of 5-2 and 4-2.
