4/7/2013 6:31:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Third baseman Cole Metcalfe's walk-off two-run home run in the eleventh inning of Game 2 completed the Bellarmine University baseball team's sweep of Lewis University, and salvaged a weekend split against the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division leaders.

Recaps of the games are below:

GAME ONE: Bellarmine 7, Lewis 2

Bellarmine took their first win of the weekend series in the seven-inning opener, dispatching the Flyers 7-2.

After giving up an unearned run off two throwing errors in the first inning, the Knights took the lead in the second frame when designated hitter Alec Bahnick chopped a base hit over the third baseman's head, bringing home Metcalfe and Graham Spencer.

Bahnick went 2-for-3 for the game with three runs batted in.  Centerfielder Austin Crutcher was also 2-for-3 and scored a run during a five-run third inning for Bellarmine which broke the game open.

BU starter Benjamin Fuchs (W, 2-2) struck out two and allowed six hits in six complete innings to earn the victory.  Ryan Dixon retired the side in the seventh to complete the game in a non-save situation.

GAME TWO: Bellarmine 8, Lewis 7 (Final/11 innings)

Metcalfe's home run over the high left field fence drove in Bahnick, who led off the inning drawing a hit by pitch from Lewis hurler Dylan Cysewski (L, 0-1).  They were Metcalfe's third and fourth runs batted in for the game in which he batted 3-for-5.

The Knights forced extra innings in improbable fashion, trailing 6-1 entering the ninth inning.  Metcalfe drove in a pair of runs to tie the game with two outs.  Timely hits by Cody Scheler, Jes Staples, Bahnick, and Spencer contributed to the late-inning comeback.

Starter Jason Sterrett gave up four earned runs off seven hits in 5.1 innings in a game where seven Knights saw the mound.  Ryan Dixon (W, 1-0) picked up his first win of the season after giving up one hit in his relief appearance in during the eleventh inning.

The Knights (16-11, 11-5 GLVC) return to action on Saturday for a weekend series at St. Joseph's College.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Rensselaer, Ind.
