Baseball falls 5-3 on Senior Day

Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University baseball team celebrated the accomplishments of nine members of the senior class following a rain-soaked seven inning loss to the University of Southern Indiana, 5-3, on Saturday at Knights Field.
 
Seniors Phil Forbis, Kyle Grana, Nick Hladek, Patrick Krumme, Michael Morrissette, Graham Spencer, Jason Sterrett, Justin Strohmeier, and Cory Thomas were all honored postgame, as rain washed out the back end of the planned doubleheader.  The two teams are expected to conclude the series on Sunday at noon with a nine inning game.
 
The Knights (25-21, 20-13 GLVC) outhit the Screaming Eagles (30-18, 19-16), 11-10, and held a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning.  Third baseman Cole Metcalfe went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the fourth inning.  Left Fielder Jes Staples and right fielder Phil Leopold also had multi-hit games.
 
Starting pitcher Benjamin Fuchs struck out three and allowed three earned runs off six hits in 5.2 innings pitched.  Justin Strohmeier (L, 0-1) picked up the loss after allowing two runs in his 1.1 innings.
