Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Bellarmine University men's lacrosse team fell behind 4-1, and the host Ohio State Buckeyes held off the Knights to claim a 10-7 victory in an Eastern College Athletic Conference game at Jesse Owens Stadium.
Ohio State won for just the second time this season to improve to 2-5 overall and is 1-0 in the ECAC. Bellarmine drops its third straight to fall to 4-3, 0-3 ECAC.
Six different Knights registered goals with freshman
Austin Shanks netting two to lead the visitors. Ohio State was led by Carter Brown, who tallied three goals and two assists.
After the Buckeyes jumped out to the early lead, the Knights closed to within 4-3 when Shanks scored with just 22 seconds left in the first half. However, OSU won the ensuing faceoff and deposited a goal with just two clicks left on the clock to go into halftime with a two-goal cushion.
In the second period, Bellarmine again closed to within one at 7-6, but Ohio State strung together three straight goals to ice the game.
Ryan Scinta closed the game's scoring with a goal with less than a minute to make the final 10-7.
Bellarmine outshot Ohio State 31-29 and had three fewer turnovers, but the Buckeyes won 15 of 21 faceoffs.
Nick Doyle recorded nine saves in picking up in the win in goal, while
Will Haas picked up eight saves, but was saddled with the loss.
Bellarmine returns to action back at home on March 29 when they host Fairfield in their final ECAC game at 1 p.m.
