LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The Bellarmine University volleyball team lost in four sets this afternoon to the visiting Indianapolis Greyhounds in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match in Knights Hall.
With both teams coming in with identical 9-14 records, prognosticators would have predicted a tight match, and it lived up to that billing with the Greyhounds pulling out the 27-25, 25-21, 20-25, 28-26 victory.
For the Knights, the loss was a bitter pill to swallow after squandering several chances to force a fifth set. Bellarmine held a 24-20 lead in the fourth, but could not close out the game, losing five set points as the Hounds fought back to win the match in four.
The Greyhounds were led by Kacee Salyers, who posted a game-high 19 kills, and the Knights were paced by
Megan Kimbley's 17 kills. Bellarmine also got a solid effort from
Bridget Guinane, who recorded an attack percentage of .313 while amassing 14 kills.
Defensively, both liberos averaged more than eight digs per set with UIndy's Hailey Brown coming up with 34 and
Jordyn Kuchenbrod recording 32 for the Knights.
The Knights slip to 9-15 overall and 2-9 in GLVC play, while the Greyhounds improve to 10-14, 6-5 GLVC.
Bellarmine steps out of conference play to host Cedarville on Tuesday night. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
