SOMERS, Wisc. — Wisconsin-Parkside scored with less than two minutes remaining in the first overtime to defeat the visiting Bellarmine University men's soccer team 2-1 on Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Scott Nicolai scored the game-winner for the Rangers (4-6-1, 4-4-1 GLVC) in the 99th minute. A shot by Evan Garcia dinged off the crossbar, and Nicolai managed to collect the rebound and put away the score.
Bellarmine (7-5, 5-4) tied the match at 1-1 in the 80th minute when junior midfielder
Beau Laufer received a pass from sophomore midfielder
Callum Southern and buried a shot from 20 yards out. It was the team-best fifth goal of the season for Laufer.
Wisconsin-Parkside opened the scoring early when Garcia found the net off a pass from Nicolai in the seventh minute.
Bellarmine easily had more shot attempts — 18-10 — than Wisconsin-Parkside, and the Knights put more on frame — 8-3.
Bellarmine plays at 4:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday at Lewis.
