EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The Bellarmine University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20) decision to the host Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles tonight in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match in the Physical Activities Center.
The Knights (10-20, 2-14 GLVC) got a lift from
Megan Kimbley in the third set as the sophomore outside hitter came up with seven kills to lead Bellarmine to a 25-18 victory and avoid the sweep.
In the fourth set, the Screaming Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead and essentially held that margin to thwart any Bellarmine comeback.
Kimbley finished the night with 14 kills to lead the Bellarmine attack, while classmate
Margaret Horihan added 13. Setter
Allie Muha led the Knights in digs with 16 while adding 44 assists.
Southern Indiana (20-9, 9-7 GLVC) got 15 kills from Erica Oberbroeckling with Shelbi Morris and Abbey Winter adding 12 and 11 respectively.
The Knights will wrap up their 2015 season with matches on Friday and Saturday in Knights Hall. On Friday, Bellarmine entertains McKendree at 7 p.m. Saturday will feature "Senior Day" honors for
Phoenix Fowler before the Knights take on Illinois Springfield in a 2 p.m. match.
