O'Bryan scores twice--including in overtime--to lift Knights past Lions 2-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—A "golden goal" by Kelsey O'Bryan in the ninth minute of overtime lifted the Bellarmine field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over the Lindenwood Lions in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason tournament this evening at Trager Stadium on the campus of the University of Louisville.

Bellarmine will meet Limestone in the championship game on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. after the Saints handed Newberry a 5-1 loss in the other semifinal.

The Knights, who improved to 10-6 on the season, registered the only goal of the first period when O'Bryan took possession of a penalty corner insertion then outmaneuvered a defender as she dribbled through circle and drilled a shot into the right side of the cage.

The Lions got the equalizer in the second period, with that goal also coming off a corner.  Victoria Buysschaert inserted a corner nearly 19 minutes into the second half then eased to the left side of the cage where she collected a pass and finished the play with her sixth goal of the season.

Bellarmine could not find the cage in the second period despite outshooting Lindenwood 6-1 in the half. For the game, the Knights owned a 16-6 shot advantage and a 12-5 margin in penalty corners.

Both goalies picked up five saves on the day with Alexandra Moro picking up her fifth win of the season while Victoria Gil—and the Lions—fell to 9-8 on the season.

Sunday's final will be a re-match of last year's inaugural ECAC championship in which Limestone took a 2-1 victory in a well-played match in Gaffney, S.C.
