LEBANON, Ill. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team dropped its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, falling 1-0 at McKendree on Friday night.
The Knights (2-2, 0-1 GLVC) held an 18-11 advantage in shots, including 6-2 on frame, but couldn't locate the net against the Bearcats (1-1, 1-0).
Bellarmine created a great deal of scoring opportunities in the second half, when the Knights piled up 12 shots to the four of the Bearcats. Seven of those attempts came inside the final 12 minutes along with three corner kicks, but the Bearcats and goalkeeper Scott Armistead (six saves) managed to preserve the shutout.
McKendree scored its goal in the 19th minute when Felipe Thompson assisted to Clemente Rossi for a 1-0 lead.
Bellarmine will host Illinois Springfield at 2:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
