LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The guys have no intention of being upstaged by the ladies.
For the second straight game day at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium, the Bellarmine University men's soccer team duplicated the result of the BU women that preceded them, this time matching a 1-0 victory over Drury on Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Sophomore forward
Joe Workman scored off an assist from sophomore defender
Mike Albes in the second half for the Knights (4-2, 2-1 GLVC), who posted a 2-1 victory over Illinois Springfield in their previous match, same as the BU women.
"It was a good win for the guys tonight against a quality opponent," BU Coach
Tim Chastonay said. "We are starting to create some quality chances, and it was great to be rewarded with that goal."
It occurred in the 64th minute after a scoreless first half. From the left side of the box, Albes laced a cross to Workman, who headed the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead over the Panthers (1-4, 1-2). It was the second straight match in which Albes assisted on the game-winning goal.
Bellarmine made that lone score stand up. The Knights' defense yielded only one shot on goal and 10 overall, including just four in the second half. BU tallied 11 shots, with three coming on frame.
Freshman goalkeeper
Zach Pogue moved to 4-1 in his young career after collecting his third shutout.
Bellarmine will host Missouri S&T at 2:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday.
"I'm hoping we can quickly recover and build off this win for Sunday," Chastonay said.
