Knights men's soccer's stalemate with UIS marks third straight tie

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The visiting Bellarmine University men's soccer team played to a scoreless tie with Illinois Springfield on Friday in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

It was the third straight deadlock for the Knights, who moved to 5-7-4 overall and 4-6-3 in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars are now 6-8-2 overall and 5-6-2 in the league.

As has frequently occurred this season, Bellarmine had a decisive advantage in shots but didn't notch a win. The Knights piled up 20 attempts to seven for Illinois Springfield and had a 10-2 superiority in shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Pogue registered his fifth shutout for Bellarmine. Tommy Geile's shutout for Illinois Springfield came with 10 saves.

Geile made a few outstanding saves in the first half in particular when the Knights appeared poised to score on multiple occasions.

Bellarmine hosts McKendree at 2:30 p.m. (ET) Sunday on Senior Day.
