LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University volleyball team delivered a valiant effort but fell 3-2 to No. 13 Lewis in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday night at the University of Louisville's Cardinal Arena.
The Flyers (14-3, 8-0 GLVC) got an early start in the match by winning the first set 25-18. The Knights (12-5, 3-5) answered, winning the second and third sets 25-18 and 25-19. The Knights were unable to sustain that momentum, as the Flyers won the fourth set 25-12 and the clincher 15-5.
The Flyers got an early lead in that fifth set. They posted an attack percentage of .375, which helped them burst out to a 7-0 lead from which the Knights couldn't recover.
Bellarmine junior
Margaret Horihan had a team-high 12 kills and 17 digs, which helped the Knights with their 62-59 lead in digs. Junior
Allie Muha chipped in 13 digs and led the team with 28 assists. Sophomore
Jordyn Kuchenbrod tallied a match-high 26 digs.
The Flyers' Maddie Seliga had 15 digs and 18 kills, which helped Lewis to a 47-36 edge in kills.
The Knights host Wisconsin-Parkside at 3 p.m. (ET) Saturday at Knights Hall.
