CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University wrestling team competed against four teams in the Campbellsville Duals on Saturday.
The Knights were defeated 43-6 by Newberry, 42-6 by Belmont Abbey, 30-21 by Truett-McConnell and 48-6 by University of the Cumberlands.
"Overall the team didn't perform very well, but that could be a result of not having
Gage Branson and
Bryan Carter in the lineup due to injuries," Bellarmine Coach
Spencer Adams said. "Both of those guys will help tremendously in morale and team points for duals. Missing guys in duals kills momentum and gives the other team a big advantage."
At 157,
Andy Dobben collected a pin against a regional foe from Newberry. Junior
Brian Carman also recorded a pin against Belmont Abbey, another regional opponent. Carman also lost a close match to a ranked adversary from Newberry.
"These matches will be very valuable come time for the regional seeding meeting in February," Adams said.
Sophomore
Cole Tawney, at 141, secured a 5-2 decision against a Truett-McConnell wrestler, and sophomore
Timothy Edwards tallied a pin against the same school at 184.
Bellarmine will host its first-ever wrestling competition when the Knights welcome Thomas More College for a dual match at 7 p.m. (ET) on Nov. 30.
